Bauhaus celebrates its centenary this year, and the Design History Society wishes to acknowledge and mark the significance of this School, its design and broad reaching influence by including the panel ‘The Business of Bauhaus’ at this year’s conference. The Society has been working alongside the German Gesellschaft für Designgeschichte (GfDg) to promote and support the study and understanding of this influential Movement.
The Gesellschaft für Designgeschichte (GfDg) was founded in 2008 as an open platform, aiming at collaboration and exchange in German design history. The GfDg connects research from museums, universities and practice alike and fosters public discourse on its subject and to date has organised twelve annual conferences. This year’s contribution to the DHS is the first step of the GfDg to intensify the relations to other design historical organisations in Europe and the world. Under the motto “Thinking the World Anew” the Bauhaus Association 2019 and its numerous partners invite you to rediscover the historical legacy of the Bauhaus as well as its significance for the present and future. The three historical Bauhaus locations Weimar, Dessau and Berlin will receive or have already opened new museum buildings. Among the highlights of the centenary programme are the three major Bauhaus exhibitions in those cities. For more information please visit http://www.bauhaus100.de.
